" think this is the first YA, thriller, suspense that I’ve ever read and let me say, Dillon has hit a homerun with it. She nailed the voices of the teens and I loved the interaction of Jasmine and her younger siblings. This was a book that I stayed up way too late to finish and boy was I glad I did. Can’t wait to read the sequel Shimmer."

Jasmine’s life wasn't normal for a 16 year old girl. It hadn't been normal since the murder of her older sister, Daisy, two years ago. Her life had been changed forever. In Lafayette, Louisiana things are quite a bit different but in a good way. Good manners, Cajun accents and a whole lot of Southern Hospitality all make her think things are going in the right direction. On top of that the most gorgeous boy she has ever met is interested in her. Her new friends are better than she could have hoped for even if she is worried about what they might think when they find out who she is. Life would be perfect if odd things didn't keep happening. Creepy phone calls, texts, and flowers in her locker start adding up quickly to something terrifying. Could the Monster have followed them to Lafayette? Was he coming after her this time? Maybe she was just worrying unnecessarily…or not.

Author, Elena Dillon, is the winner of the Weta Nichols Writing Award for Young Adult, the InD'tale RONE award for Young Adult and a finalist in the Book Buyers Best. She writes sweet teenage romance with sass, suspense and swoon.
She has never lived anywhere besides California, which is probably a good thing since she hates being cold and is terrified to drive in the snow.
She loves being a wife and a mother to her three kids and English bulldog, Brutus.
A self-proclaimed nerd, she spends her days writing and catering to Brutus since he considers her "the help".

Do you love reading mysteries and teen edgy novels ? Breathe by Elena Dillon may have a cover that will either intrigue to open it and have a go or will be a cover that you browse past as it isn't over attractive and is quite simplistic. For me, I quite like the simple cover as it made me more interested in reading the book. I opened it, not knowing what I was in for and WOW. From the first page, we learn that Jasmine's older sister Daisy was murdered and her killer has never been found and due to this the family have been moving from place to place as just when they get comfortable, something happens that brings the killer closer. The family then move to a small town called Roarke. Jasmine is glad that no-one knows her there and she can start fresh. The novel then flips to Jasmine at Walmart and then fainting due to fright and landing in the arms of one of the Ward brothers. Soon she has captured both of their attention especially that of the older one Easton. As the novel goes along we watch as Jasmine starts to relax and think that maybe she can finally have a normal life but just as she starts to settle into life, the phone calls and strange gifts start happening again. Has the killer found them again ? Is anyone safe for her ?Find out in this awesome edgy teen novel with a hint of murder, mystery and mayhem

I loved everything about the book. I was annoyed that she didn't trust anyone to help her. It was funny in parts and you really felt part of the family. I enjoyed this book very much.
Anyone who reads my reviews will know I'm a tough critic and I don't hesitate to return poorly written items. To score a five star from me, the author has to deliver an outstanding story which also demonstrates an excellent handle on the basic skills of grammar, spelling, plot devices, character development etc. No mean feat in today's romance genre, thanks to the explosion of e-books and self-publishing.
How happy I am to say that Elena Dillon has delivered in spades. This story is so well done and I found myself reluctant to put it down (yes, it was a 2am finish) as I immersed myself in the world of a feisty, teenage girl who never loses hope in the face of extreme menace and a gorgeous, teenage hero with maturity and strong family values (do they really breed them like that in the deep south of the USA?). I am so excited to see such a talented debut and can't wait for her next novel, which is expected within the next few months.
What can I say? The author demonstrated high proficiency in the basic techniques, the plot was compelling, the characters very real and very likeable, and there was even a touch of good old manners, accountability and faith, all gently thrown into the mix. It was very much PG-13 (the H/h don't get beyond a chaste kiss), but that's to be expected given it's clearly targeted at the YA market.
Loved it - eagerly awaiting the next one!
Elena Dillon has written a wonderful suspenseful romance novel that is definitely appropriate for young readers!~I think I fell in love with the young male football hero myself! I was so entranced that I could not stop reading and just kept hoping and praying that the awful MONSTER would not find Jasmine and hurt her as he had done to her sister, Daisy. Readers will gain great pleasure from this novel....no matter what the age!
What an amazing book. Still giving me the shivers. Absolutely loved the characters and the story was phenomenal. So much suspense and a nice love story intertwined with it. Can't wait to read the next book.
This could have been a good book if it would not have just "suddenly " died. If . it is a "cliffhanger" there should have been a warning!
If someone murdered your sister and the killer was never found, how would that event change your life, especially if you were only 16 years old?
When Jasmine's older sister is murdered it changes everything. Now she must take on the role of the oldest sister, caretaker to her younger siblings, and learn how to be strong for her family--something she's never had to do.
This is a story of romance and suspense and had me wondering if the author had lost a sibling to murder because she showed Jasmine's emotions so vividly. It's a story of a girl who's faith, bravery and strong character wins.
As a mother of a teen girl, I want to believe that young men like Easton really exist. He was the perfect gentlemen, but also knew Jasmine better than anyone. What girl doesn't want to be "understood" by her man?
I love how Elena added a hint of faith and God to this story without making it over-the-top.
Well done, Elena. I will recommend this book and look forward to reading your next novel, CRUSHING.
I read Shimmer before Breathe and while the books stand alone, I found that Shimmer was a better book in that it drew me in more. Not sure why, I just didn't feel the same connection to Jas as I did with the MC in Shimmer. That being said, Breathe is a great book and was thoroughly enjoyed. Jas is trying to get on with her life, two years after her sister, Daisy was brutally murdered. Her family has moved, she's in a new school where no one knows who she is and a cute guy keeps rescuing her. Not bad, life is getting better. Except weird things keep happening to her.
Truthfully, I would have gone to the cops pretty quickly with her history, but Jas ignores some pretty blatant foreshadowing. In the end, however, she makes a plan and has everything worked out so she can catch the man who killed her sister and is now stalking her.
It was also fun to read about Caeden as a little kid here, since he's swoon-worthy in the next book!
